Women in Philanthropy Annual Luncheon (11/04/2015)

Friday, September 18, 2015  •  Events

Due to the overwhelming support of our Sponsors, Woman in Philanthropy Members and the Lakeland Community, the 2015 WIP Luncheon is completely SOLD OUT.  Thank you for your generous support of the LRH Foundation and Women in Philanthropy! We hope you can join us next year!

When Geralyn Lucas was just 27 years old, she was surprised to find out she had breast cancer. Instead of asking, “Why me?”, she decided to face her journey with courage and humor.

That’s how Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy happened. Her acclaimed memoir details the internal struggle and soul searching she went through as a woman with a new lucrative job at “20/20”.

Ms. Lucas brings her witty candor to The Lakeland Center as keynote speaker at the Women in Philanthropy Annual Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015.

Eighteen years later and cancer-free, Ms. Lucas (geralynlucas.com) talks about motherhood, marriage, body image, self-worth, family and the loss of loved ones. Her message is not just for women who have experienced the effects of cancer.

“This is a universal story for women,” says Ms. Lucas. “A lot of people say going through a serious illness makes you look deeply at who you are, and that can be true. But you don’t have to have breast cancer to do that.”

Ms. Lucas’ story has spawned a lipstick by Stila called Geralyn and a T-shirt by famed fashion designer Betsey Johnson. SELF magazine praises Ms. Lucas as an author and motivational speaker, saying her “honest, funny and courageous account of facing down the disease is both inspiring and entertaining.”

This event is SOLD OUT. Proceeds from the luncheon will support Women in Philanthropy charitable initiatives benefitting the Lakeland Regional Health Cancer Center.

These advances in care are possible because of dedicated individuals, such as those who comprise Women in Philanthropy.

We look forward to seeing you soon for an inspiring and entertaining time of celebration and fellowship.
